Khan Shekhoon

Syria traditional clothing dresses folk Allepo Aleppo Weiss-Armush Khan Sheikhoon

This magnificent cotton thob from Khan Sheikhoon in Idlib province (NE Syria) was worn as a cover up for regular dress when the woman left her house for visits or domestic errands. Heavily embroidered by hand at shoulders, upper back and chest, it fell regally while providing modesty. White embroidery highlights border diamond shapes at the front, while over the shoulders and upper back borders of rainbow colors add a bit of originality and whimsy to this stately and very special dress.
