Purchased in Allepo in 1980, this woman's dress is one-of-a-kind with heavy machine embroidery in light coral shades and pastel green, lilac and turquoise. Geometric and floral traditional embroidery patterns usually seen in hand work are replicated here by machine. Rosettes, vines and hearts burst open in colorful gardens from the mountains along the back hem, and flower along the Syrian hill pattern that grow whimsically along each seam.
