Damascus Velvet Dress
Syria traditional clothing dresses folk Allepo Aleppo Weiss-Armush

A dress of Japanese velvet that was made to order from a Damascus embroidery producer. Traditional machine embroidery designs were adapted on a classic caftan pattern and were produced free-hand, without use of any pattern.

For special occasions, a made-to-order dress fit much better than cheap commercial models available in the souq. The latter tended to have shoddy stitching, and were cut for much shorter (and sometimes broader) matrons.
