Labeled 'Mohalaza of Djebel El Arab', artist Ziad Zokar captured the charm of the Syrian coin headdress that was stitched to the bottom of the Ottoman tarboosh hat as part of a Druze girl's dowry.

Druze women were extremely fair and their delicate beauty and hazel eyes were much admired!

More commonly known as Djebal El Druz, the El Arab mountains are located in the southern part of Syria, and were an autonomous Kurdish region under the French mandate (1921 - 1936).
