Kafar Soosa and Daraya (Damascus)
Syria traditional clothing dresses folk Ghouta

Women of Kafar Sousa and Daraya in southwestern Damascus (also called the Western Ghoota) wrap one length of special fabric as a skirt, with the second as a head covering. Today the fabric is usually a coarse hand-blocked cotton in dark blue, but in the past silk and more expensive fabrics were used.

The neighborhood was historically an agricultural suburb of Damascus. The word "Kafar" means 'farming area'.
