Beit Tima |
Two artificial silk thob el-shaz dresses from Beit Tima (Golan). These thob el shaq dresses with fitted tops, long v-necklines and swide two-tiered gathered skirts were referred to as 'modern' (European) or nawar (gypsy). The short siddriye jackets that accompanied these dresses were decorated with inexpensive commercial lace and trim rather than embroidery. The style shows Ottoman as well as European influence and was also worn in the Galilee, Muthallah and Jenin areas in Palestine. |
