Hama Silver Closeup

Syria traditional clothing, dresses folk Hama, Hama Weiss-Armush

After the white raw silk fabric was dyed a russet shade, geometric lines were gathered into tiny bundles and covered with thread before the garment was dipped into a black anniline dye.

When the colors were set, this thob was covered in metal thread embroidery. Patterns include birds (for good news and good luck), multiple rows of flowers, and trees of life sprouting from mountains along the hem.

The sleeves are gathered into wristbands.
