Alternating black and pale blue panels create a striking decorative pattern to this cotton dress from Hawran known as shirsh. Totally made by hand, this thob features red and multicolored overlay stitching on the seams.

Most commonly made in the colors shown, this dress was sometimes sewn from black fabric with red seam overlays and stitching around the deep neck slit. In addition, all seams are decorated ad reinforced with embroidery.

The traditional jacket is of wool in the usual blue color, with purchased flat black braid and inserts of striped silk from Damascus. These jackets could be either black, dark red, or blue, and sometimes were reversible, with flat braid applied on both sides.
