Palestinian Dress from Yarmook


From Damascus' Yamook neighborhood settled by refugees from the 1948 war with Israel, a Palestine, a beautifully embroidered child's dress in the style of Ramallah.

Couching stitch embroidery outlines seven magical diamonds on the square qabbeh, which has been reused from a previous dress. Peakicks adorn the six vertical skirt panels. A highly decorated qabbeh could be a family heirloom, handed down from mother to daughter and used on a several dresses.
