A loose fitting cloak, this type of abbaya was worn on festive occasions by the Bedouin, and by city-dwellers as well. Syria's textile industry still provides most of the traditional garments for men worn throughout the Gulf and the Arab world. Damascus specializes on the production of the most expensive textiles such as gold brocades and celebratory abayas such as these two examples. |
