Women in the small village of Serakib in the northern Idlib province produced an amazing quantity of this loose fitting thob. New and slightly worn dresses were alsomarketed to Damascus for sale to tourists.
Various shades of red cotton embroidery thread were utilized in this complex design, along with white and fucis and pale green outlines. An orange red shade predominates in the dense embroidery over chest and shoulders. Patterns include stylelized palms and diamonds, and the designs were embroidered freehand.
