A successful embroidery merchant from Serakib showed the collector the proper way to wear the thob and its accompanying headdress. The bodice and shoulders of her dress display one of the many popular patterns, which leaves small diamonds of the black fabric unembroidered to serve as important elements in the geometric design. The two sides of the skirt are asymetrically embroidered.
The photo was taken in 1986, when the collector visited with the woman who traveled regularly to the Damascus souk to sell dresses created by her neighbors.
